“Chat with an Expert’
Juliet Evans from The Party Box Company chats with us about party planning, tips and trends.
Before we begin we will give you a brief introduction of Juliet’s business.
The Party Box Company was created by kiwi mum Juliet in 2017. The Party Box Company delivers ‘boxes of awesome’ themed kid’s party boxes direct to your doorstep anywhere in New Zealand. These party boxes include backdrops, party decorations, table setting, table ware, gift boxes/bags and party favors as well as party games to entertain your guests. Everything you need to host your kid’s birthday party, minus the food and the cake.
Where do you get your inspiration from Juliet?
The world wide web has so many wonderful sources for party inspiration. The most popular being Pinterest, party directory and photo compilation websites like the wonderful My Kid’s Party here in New Zealand, and off shore sites such as Catch My Party, Kara’s Party Ideas, Life’s Little Celebrations to name a few. At The Party Box Company what we do is collate a few ideas within the theme, create a mood board then see how we can bring our party inspiration to life and fulfil the dreams of our clients.
What is unique about what you do at The Party Box Company?
We like to work with each of our clients on the theme they have in mind to create the perfect birthday party. Firstly we brainstorm party theme ideas with the client, come up with the party supplies within the theme (we source and also make many of our own party supplies), and then we deliver it all to their doorstep in time for the party. There are many great party supply websites in New Zealand and overseas where clients can purchase supplies themselves, what we do is take all the hassle out of party supply shopping for our clients as well as offering them a personalised service to fulfil their individual party needs.
What are the current party trends / themes?
Gosh there are so many themes to choose from – we never thought that we’d be asked to do so many different ones!
Popular themes we see a lot of are:
Traditional themes – Mickey/Minnie Mouse, Princess, Pirate, Dinosaur, Fairy, Superhero, Farmyard.
Disney, Pixar, movie or TV themes as well as celebrities – think Cars, The Lion Guard, Moana, Paw Patrol, JoJo Siwa.
A particular colour theme – pink/purple/gold; mint/pink/peach, black and white.
Themes based around animals – flamingos, llamas, cats, bunnies.
First birthdays are very popular and so special, a lot of client’s are choosing to do Cake Smashes as well as the traditional party with the family.
What are your top party planning tips?
We are all about creating as stress free a party as possible – as the most important thing is you getting to spend time with your loved ones celebrating and creating memories together on the special day.
Our top 3 tips would be –
Be organised – know in advance what decorations, food and entertainment you would like
Work on a time line for getting everything ready and not leaving it until the last minute!
Enlist help – you don’t have to do everything yourself – as lovely as that is sometimes it can be so overwhelming and demanding – there are lots of wonderful businesses’ out there that can help with different aspects of your party, as well as asking family and friends.
What’s the most important thing when planning a kids birthday party?
Ensuring you are able to spend time enjoying the party and seeing how much the kid’s faces light up on the day
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
We LOVE getting feedback from our clients about how excited their kids were when they saw the party box arrive and be set up. To be honest, in our experience, the parents are just (if not more so) excited to receive our ‘boxes of awesome’ too and hearing that feedback totally makes what we do worthwhile.
Happy Party Planning to you all – and if we can ever help with part or all of your next kids birthday party you know where to find us!
Thanks so much Juliet for sharing your party planning tips with us. The Party Box Company is such a fabulous idea. I know it would be a huge help to kiwi mums having all that work, styling and sourcing done for them and delivered to their door!
