William requested an Army Party for his 8th birthday. We used the amazing reserve in our neighbourhood to set the scene for an awesome Army Party.
Happy 8th Birthday William! Hope you loved your action filled party.

Army Party Invitations:
Army Party Favors:
We created an Army Enlistment Office to join our new Army Recruits. A fun part of our party was getting the kid’s kitted out in camo paint and army gear. These formed the party favors for the kids. Army tattoos, dog tags, bracelets, bandanas and camo face paint all came in The Party Box Companies box.
Army Party Decorations:
We were so excited to use one of The Party Box Companies boxes of awesomeness. The Party Box Company offers themed party boxes delivered to your door with everything but the cake and food to set the scene for a fantastic party. They even have the games and party favors covered. Our Army Party Box came with amazing camo net, table cloth, plates, straws, bunting and more.
We were lent lots of authentic Army decor to really set the scene for a cool party. An old hand grenade, ammunition boxes, Army packs, hats and flasks all added to the look. I loved the DIY Rag Bunting we made using scrap fabrics in camo colours. Other favourite decor items were our Army Men Terrarium table centre piece and the silver army men on little jars with ANZAC biscuits in them. Of course every party needs some balloons so we had a camo coloured DIY Balloon Garland.
Army Party Food:
I didn’t want to transport lots of food to the park so we packed savoury/healthier items for the kid’s like cheese, popcorn, Marmite and Cheese Scrolls and strawberries into kraft boxes. These great kraft boxes are from The Pretty Baker. With most of the food packed into the boxes it left the dessert table for a few sweet party treats.
Our Army Men Cupcakes were a favourite. Make sure you follow the link to find out how we made these. We used one of Kiwi Cakes fantastic sprinkle meddles and their real Army Men Gummies. We also used the Kiwi Cakes sprinkles on marshmallows dipped in melted chocolate. These are always a hit with kid’s.
We couldn’t have an Army Party without thought to our New Zealand Soldiers. ANZAC poppies and biscuits were placed on the table in memory of our New Zealand Army Corp and all past and present soldiers.
Bite sized pieces of Chocolate Fudge topped with a little fondant decoration to give them that Army look were made ahead and frozen. (You can see I like to ease the party workload by doing some of the prep ahead of time.) I loved our Camo Biscuits and enjoyed making these.
Army Birthday Cake:
Our fantastic Army Tank Cake was made by Daddy Cake Baker using one of Cake 2 the Recue’s cake kits. The kits come delivered to your door with everything you need to bake and decorate your cake at home. This kit even came with the army man to drive the tank and candles. I’m a fan of these cake kits because kid’s love it when parent’s make their birthday cakes. I also love the kits because you don’t end up going to the supermarket several times for all the bits you need and they even come with a disposable cardboard ‘tin’ to bake the cake in. Kid’s would love looking at the Cake 2 the Rescue website and getting to choose their own cake.
Army Party Fun:
With the help of my cousin Honor, we gave William the party he requested with an Army assault course and Nerf gun war. First Honor made sure the kid’s were ready to ‘join the army’ before we kitted them up in camo paint and army gear. Honor led them through a gruelling obstacle course followed by some free time to have their own Nerf war. After all this the kid’s needed some army kai time on their pallet table beside the river.
Once the kid’s had refuelled Honor led them in some Army related games. We finished off our Army fun with some adventurous river rope swinging.
