‘Boho’ and ‘Wild One’ are big trends for kid’s parties at the moment. The very talented Yvette, from Party by Design, styled this party for a lucky little girl’s first birthday party. Te Wai looks like such a gorgeous ‘wild one’ this party is so adorable for her.
Yvette said, “Te Wai’s Mum wanted something different and something she had not seen before so contacted me for help.” I imagine Te Wai’s mum loved what Yvette came up with!
I love how Yvette has used the bright pinks, fuchsias and purples in this party. The gorgeous mix of feathers, flowers, lace and doily’s alongside the natural woods and fabrics. All so lovely and perfect for a special little girl. So many gorgeous touches like the fresh flowers, scattered cushions and framed quotes. Love the green backdrop to the dessert table. All the decorations were sourced and supplied from Yvette at Party by Design in Auckland.
Such a wonderful table setting for Te Wai’s guests to sit at and enjoy their party food. Gorgeous glass bottles decorated with bright feathers for the children to drink ‘pink soda’ from.
Wow this is such a stunning cake. The teepee on top, gold dream catcher and feathers, the flowers and colour palette. Amazing!
All styled and created by Party by Design.
Thanks for sharing this gorgeous, colourful ‘boho wild child’ party with us Yvette and Te Wai. It is truely stunning. Happy 1st Birthday Te Wai!
Black and White… one of my favourite decor combinations! This classy party was sent to us from Canadian mum Carly. This is the first ‘overseas’ kid’s party to feature on My Kid’s Party. I try to focus on kiwi kid’s parties but I couldn’t resist sharing this one with you when Carly sent it to me. I always love black and white and Carly being an interior designer has the skills to put together a very stylish party. This was for her two ‘wild’ children Zachariah (4) and Zara (2). Carly owns interior design company Zolmer Design + Co.
Carly said, “Both of my children have a zest for life and do not stop for anything. They go non stop all day and their absolute favorite thing to do is to be outside playing, having a fire or “working” in the yard. As you can tell from the photos of my son, he has a cast from his extremely active lifestyle (which has not stopped him from doing anything). I felt the theme of this party was particularly fitting for my kids as they are certainly “wild” children, and are extremely adventurous. In saying that, as parents, my husband and I hold true to many of the prints used throughout the party such as “stay wild my child”, for although they are busy, it reminds us that they are young and full of life.”
Carly found fabulous ‘Wild Child’ invites on Etsy. Etsy is great for invitations as they can email you the pdf to print at home or in a shop.
Carly used all black and white party decor. This looks amazing with the backdrop of Carly’s gorgeous monochrome home. My favourite element is the paper lantern cluster above the food table. I also love how Carly has used framed quotes and wall decals. These can all be reused as kid’s bedroom decor after the party, which I’m a big fan of. Carly said, “For party inspiration I started on Pinterest and made a general board of ideas for the party. Most of my party supplies and specialty products were sourced and ordered on etsy (as they carry many handmade, theme specific products). All other party decor materials and supplies came from general party stores.”
Carly made the pom pom garland and balloon fringes. To make them Carly said, “I used regular white sewing string and threaded it through black and white pom poms to create little pom pom garlands. For the balloon fringe I used black and white tissue paper, cut vertical lines in them and rolled them and stapled them. Once I had 8 assembled (4 of each colour), I layered them on the balloon string I would be using for the giant globe balloons.”
Carly also made the two small black teepees on the food table. She used sheets of black felt paper to make the teepee shape and added black and white feathers at the top.
One of Carly’s great decor finds was ‘wild’ themed stamps. She used this with black ink on the napkins, inserts for the flowers, food toppers, tags for the gift bags and some banners. This is such a great idea for decorating your party. If you want to use stamps try Rubber Stamps by Montage based in Christchurch. They have an online store.
Carly said, “Food served at the party was – buns with meat and cheese, fruit skewers, veggie tray, bruschetta, hashbrowns, meatballs and chips. For dessert – cakes, candies, powdered doughnuts, brownies, decorated sugar cookies and oreos (all desserts fit the black and white collar scheme)”
The children enjoyed a face painter and bouncy castle for some party fun.
The Black and White cakes are designed and made by Cake Affair.

‘Bohemian Vibes’ is our first teenage birthday party to feature on the website. So fun to see the gorgeous things you can do for 13th birthday party. This party was styled by the lovely Catherine from Far, Far Away Party Stylists in Auckland. Sit back and chill while you take in the style and sophistication of this bohemian gathering.
“Boho is short for bohemian, and typifies a style of dress inspired by the lifestyle of free spirits and hippies of the 1960s and 1970s, and even the pre-Raphaelite women of the late 19th century. Designer Savannah Miller, elder sister of boho-chic actress Sienna Miller, described a “real bohemian” as “someone who has the ability to appreciate beauty on a deep level, is a profound romantic, …, whose world is their own creation, rather than living in a box”. (wikipedia) Sounds like something teenage girls would love; beauty, creation and individuality. Such a great theme for older girls; style, sophistication and cool. Catherine said, “The birthday girl wanted an intimate gathering with her friends and a chance to laugh, chat and in general hang out together so we knew the Bohemian Vibes was just perfect for this.”
These amazing dream catcher invitations were custom made by Far, Far Away. I’ve always loved invitations and in this digital age people are sending them less. Great to see such thought gone into these dream catcher invitations. You would know you were in for something special if you received one of these invitations.
Goodness I love the feel of this party. Makes me want to lounge on one of those lush pillows and chat with my girlfriends! All the different textured and patterned fabrics, the rustic pallet table, the florals and feathers… the pinks, gold and naturals blended together… big loves for this. How cute are those gold animals on the table?
The hoop flower hanging is custom made by Far, Far Away. The confetti balloons, metallic streamers and feather garland are from Far, Far Away’s Online Store. The big ’13’ number balloons are from Look Sharp.
This fabulous party setting is available from Far, Far Away’s hire party package called Bohemian Vibes. I think it is great to hire items and save on the wastage of buying items for your party you will use once. The black plates and glasses are super sustainable party options and no plastic straws in sight. I love that party hire items save the environment, your time and your pocket.
Catherine from Far, Far Away said, “No games were organised as the birthday girl just wanted to hang out, chat and eat party food with her friends. For kids this age the importance is to chill and hangout with their friends so this was a perfect theme to do just that.” With this chic setting to relax in I’m sure the birthday girl had a fabulous time with her friends.
The girls all got their own bohemian chic floral headband to wear and of course the fabulous dream catchers that came with their party invitations. Scattered on the party table were some bohemian tattoos for the girls to have a little fun with.
All these gorgeous items can be hired or purchased from Far, Far Away in Auckland.
Number balloons sourced from Look Sharp.
Thanks for sharing this chic party with us Catherine. I can see the fun I have to look forward to as my Rosa gets older.
LOVE the lush greens and groovy party dinosaurs featured in this party. The greenery, geometric decor and gorgeous party food combine to create a divine party for 2 year old Luka.
Luka is dinosaur obsessed so a dinosaur party was a must! Luka’s mum Laura, from Partini Parties, styled this gorgeous party for her dino loving boy. Everyone took part in the preparation of this party with lots of DIY. Laura’s tip; ‘DIY is the perfect way to get your child involved and excited about their birthday party.’
I love the fresh, lush colours of this party. The balloon garland and greenery create an awesome look. Combining modern geometric home decor on the party table adds to the style of the party. The string number two is a trendy statement addition too. Laura made this with Luka’s help. They drew a 2 with chalk on the wood. Hammered in the nails and then weaved the wool on. Laura and Luka loved all the DIY involved in creating this fabulous party. All the tables, chairs, benches and oil cloth table covers can be hired form Laura at Partini Parties. Hugo and Grace provided the fantastic green balloons and the foliage is from Auckland florist Jardin Bell.
All the usual party favourites were on the menu as well as gorgeous cookies. The Dinosaur cookie cutters are from MERI MERI and can be purchased from Pixie Party Supplies.
Laura said; “It was raining outside but that didn’t stop the ROARING inside! Lots of dancing, building block dinosaurs, chalk board art and opening presents.” This gorgeous Dino tail is from Dream Designs 4 Kids.
This wonderful Green Ombre Dino Cake is from Cockle Bay Bake Shop. It is a Coconut Caramel Layer Cake with Swiss Meringue Caramel Buttercream … doesn’t that sound DIVINE!
Laura and Luka handpainted dino rocks as party favors. Luka helped to find and paint all of the rocks. He carefully painted the base green while mum added the eyes and mouth. They wrote a little ‘thank you’ message on the bottom of the rocks. The children also took home some little dino topped bubble mixture and special handprint dinosaurs made by Luka. Did you know ‘RAWR’ is ‘thank you’ in dinosaur?

Bravery, courage and strength… just what our Firefighters have and just what Cameron our birthday boy has. To celebrate Cameron’s 5th birthday he had a fabulous ‘Sound the Alarms’ Firefighter Party. Cameron is battling a heart condition so battling flames is all fun and games for Cameron. Alex from Lexi-Lu in Napier styled and organised this special party.
Cameron dreams of being like Fireman Sam. This ‘Sound the Alarms’ Party was full of fun and treats to help make Cameron’s dream come true.
“So move aside make way, for Fireman Sam!
’cause he’s gonna save the day, Fireman Sam.
’cause he’s brave to the core,
Sam is the hero next door!”
The fun decorations were styled and supplied by Lexi-Lu. Alex handmade & painted the fire engine especially for this party. The ladder is made from lollypop sticks and the copper number 5 was made with a little help form Alex’s husband. The balloons, paper straws & metal buckets were from Pop Roc Parties. These fabulous tables and cushions and all the Fireman party decor can be hired or sourced from Lexi-Lu.
Gorgeous themed cupcakes, cupcake toppers, marshmallow pops & decorated cookies were all supplied by Lexi-Lu.
Alex made and organised all the games and activities. They had ‘Pin the ladder’ on the fire truck, skittles and an awesome Fire Fighter Obstacle course. Love the cat rescue!
This amazing cake was donated by Operation Sugar. Operation Sugar is an organisation that provides free custom birthday cakes to seriously ill children in New Zealand. The not-for-profit company started in September 2012 and has a network of amateur and professional bakers donating their time, experience and money to create cakes. Operation Sugar also pays for a professional photographer to take a birthday portrait.
Themed crayons from The Little Crayon Company provided cute and useful party favors. The Napier Fire Station gave the fire truck posters, stickers & birthday print for this special party.
